More than 160 issues were included in the session’s agenda. The global issues such as peace and security, combating terrorism, protection of human rights and environment, social and economic development dominate among the issues. Traditionally general political discussions will be held within the framework of the session. More than 120 heads of states and governments are expected to join the session. The presidents of Brazil, USA, France, Serbia, Argentina and Iran will address the opening session of the UN General Assembly.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov will leave for New York on September 20 to attend the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly. He will address the session on September 29.
The UN General Assembly is the main consultative organ of the United Nations in which all member countries have an equal representation. The General Assembly’s sessions are held in September-December. The UN has 192 members currently. Azerbaijan joined the UN on March 2, 1992.
