US Ambassador Anne Derse: “It is important to solve conflicts in the Caucasian region soon”

“The Caucasian Peace and Stability Platform is a developing idea. We closely watch this process”, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse told journalists, APA reports.

The ambassador said the United States wanted to see the Caucasian and Caspian countries developing, democratic and stable. “Recent events in Georgia prove that it is important to solve conflicts in the region soon. During his visit to Azerbaijan US Vice President Richard Cheney noted that the US recognized Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and wanted the Nagorno Karabakh conflict to be solved within the international law, through the negotiations and on the principle of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

US were always active in this field and will continue its activeness”. The ambassador noted that US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza is on a visit to the region and will arrive in Baku soon. “He will hold negotiations on these issues. US government says that the Caucasian sovereign and independent countries have to choose their ways themselves and they do that”.
