National Security Ministry arrested two more members of the radical religious group consisting of Azerbaijani citizens having links to the international terrorist network.
Public affairs Center of the National Security Ministry told APA that other members of the armed group – Khalilov Amil Rza and Alazovi Ibadet Mahammad were detained as a result of the operations.
The group having links to the international terrorist network formed an armed unit and planned the commit illegal actions aiming to violate stability in Azerbaijan, suspend secular and democratic development of the state.
Members of the armed group participated in obtaining, smuggling, keeping of firearms and explosives, and committing terror attack, robbery in other crimes. Members of the group hid Samir Mehdiyev, aka Suleyman, one of the leaders of the “Forest brothers” armed group, who was accused of committing terror attack on Abu Bakr mosque in Narimanov district of Baku on August 17, 2008.
Under the instructions of head of the armed group Azer Misirkhanov, aka Abdulla, member of the group Faig Jafarov, came to Tovuz region in September along with Samir Mehdiyev, aka Suleyman, and handed him over to Ibadet Alazovi. With the help of Ibadet Alazovi, Samir Mehdiyev illegally left for a foreign country through a place called Jandargol.
In September and November, 2008, Ibadet Alazovi and Amil Khalilov smuggled a great deal of firearms, grenade launcher, submachine guns, pistols, grenades and other supplies to Azerbaijan in Khalilov’s car VAZ-21013 and delivered to the member of the group Faig Jafarov in Balaken.
The investigative actions and operational searches, as well as testimonies and evidences confirmed the criminal actions and arm smuggling to the country for the terrorist attacks by the above-mentioned persons.
Three plastids with 5 kg of explosives, known as a “suicide belt”, 200-g TNT block, two PRG-7 hand grenades, two grenade-launchers Mukha, 7 AKS, two AKSU, UZI and Eagle automatic weapons, three Makarov pistols, Magnum, Umarex, Sig Sauer, Fort-14 pistols, Winchester rifle, 57 different automatic weapons, 60 electro-detonators, 22 remote controls systems, 12 F-1 and 11 RGD-5 grenades, 5 other hand grenade, 12 detonator capsules, 20 KENWOOD radio stations, 10 emergency flares, one timer for the explosives, one compass and number of ammunitions were confiscated from the disarmed group.

214.2.1 (terrorism committed on preliminary arrangement by group of persons, by organized group or criminal community (criminal organization), 214.2.2 (committed repeatedly), 214.2.3 (committed with application of fire-arms or subjects used as a weapon), 206.3.2 (smuggling on preliminary arrangement by group of persons, 228 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives),
228.2.1 (on preliminary arrangement by group of persons), 234.1 (illegal purchase or storage without a purpose of selling of narcotics or psychotropic substances in a quantity (amount) exceeding necessary for personal consumption) of the Criminal Code.
