“Azerbaijan has a significant quantity of energy resources.
The issue of energy security is a major priority of the international community and Azerbaijan is making efforts to strengthen the energy security of Europe,” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is on state visit in Greece, said after meeting with his Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias, APA reports quoting the press service of the President of Greece.
“For more than a year Azerbaijani gas flows to Greece and from there into Europe. There is no doubt that much more can be done in this field,” the president said.
Karolos Papoulias said during the talks they had focused their attention first on the potential for further development of the bilateral relations.
“Energy, investment, trade, cultural and educational cooperation are the priorities that our countries have significant growth potential. With Mr. Ilham Aliyev discussed the relations of Azerbaijan with the European Union under the European neighborhood policy, to strengthen ties with the Union of Baku,” he said.
Ilham Aliyev said they had also touched on the issue of occupation of territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia and the problem of refugees and internally displaced people. Ilham Aliyev invited Karolos Papoulias to visit Azerbaijan. The invitation was accepted.
