“The Armenian family in Azerbaijan is treated in compliance with norms of international humanitarian law”, Head of the Working Group of the Azerbaijani State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons Firudin Sadigov told journalists, APA reports.
Sadigov noted that the Azerbaijani side has been sustaining the family as refugees for 4 years.
“These people previously expressed a desire to leave their country. Society and media are aware of their detention conditions. Sending them to a third country is not within authorities of our commission or those of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The Baku office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees is dealing with this matter. But all I can say is that no country has yet been found to accept them,” he said.
Note that, Armenians citizens in Azerbaijan – Yeghishe, Ruzanna, Alfred, Gayane, and Petros Gevorkyans are members of one family. They crossed to the Azerbaijani side in January 2010 and said they wish to move to a third country.
