Penitentiary Service: “No mass disobedience of prisoners occurred in jail #12”

Penitentiary Service of Ministry of Justice made a statement regarding media news about mass protest action in jail #12on June 11. Public relations department of the Penitentiary Service notified APA that, the reports that the prisoners began revolt with the participation of the imprisoned world boxing champion Fariz Mammadov were not true and generally, Fariz Mammadov was not held in jail #12.

“The service takes requisite measures for improving quality of food, preventing brutal, and dignity humiliating behavior towards them. No mass disobedience occurred in jail #12. In fact following scrutiny measures planned in advance were held in all jails. These measures aim to find and taking things banned by the legislation and have prophylactic character.”

According to the statement, the related state body was not contacted concerning the article entitled “Revolt in jail #12”.
“It aims to cause anxiety of prisoners and their relatives,” the statement said.
