The Azerbaijani government does not see a necessity to appoint press ombudsman. “The Council of Press of Azerbaijan plays a role of press ombudsman. Therefore, there is no need to appoint press ombudsman in the country,” head of the Presidential Administration Public and Political Department Ali Hasanov told journalists on June 13.

If journalists consider that there is a need for press ombudsman in Azerbaijan, this issue may be considered, Hasanov said.

Over recent days, local media representatives stand for formation of press ombudsman office. The office is said to regulate problems occurred between press representatives and officials.
