Amendments to the resolution on “The situation of refugees in the OSCE region” of Chair of the Committee on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions, Isabel Santos were discussed at the meeting of the Committee held within the session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Baku, APA reports.

Santos gave information about the resolution and noted that currently there are over 50 million refugees in the OSCE region and it is a catastrophic level.

Commenting on the resolution, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Bahar Muradova said that there are currently 1 200 000 refugees and internally displaced persons in Azerbaijan, as a result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: “The government carried out significant works over the years to resolve their problems and has a great experience. I wish there were no need for this experience. However, the increase in conflicts further increases the need for this experience. Joint responsibility should be determined to solve the problem. Problems of 1 200 000 refugees is a heavy load. However, our country tried to overcome it. We have solved 30 per cent of them. In fact, efforts against conflicts must be put forward. A new mechanism should be created to combine the efforts.”

The amendment proposed by the Armenian delegation is among the amendments that were adopted. According to the amendment read by Armenian MP Aghvan Vardanyan, an unobstructed access for humanitarian documents on refugees must be provided.

The draft resolution was put of for voting and adopted.
