Member of Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, MP Elkhan Suleymanov has held a press conference on the results of the PACE summer session held on June 23-27 in Strasbourg.

APA reports that E. Suleymanov spoke about the issues discussed at the meeting.

He firstly commented on the proposal of resolution “Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of the Council of Europe: What follow-up on respect for human rights?” submitted by the Irish MP Mike Mcnamara. Calling this proposal as a fraud, part of a campaign organized disgustingly, the MP noted that PACE President Anne Brasseur also joined this issue: “Strasser’s so-called report on political prisoners in Azerbaijan was destroyed last year. Now, such efforts exceed doubles standards policy and are an enemy position against Azerbaijan”.

The MP also noted that the draft resolution titled “On imposing sanctions against Armenia for keeping the Azerbaijani territories under armed occupation” authored by him and co-signed by 58 PACE members representing 14 countries has also been discussed within the session: “This is the only document demanding to impose sanctions against Armenia for keeping the Azerbaijani territories under armed occupation at the international organization during 22 years”.

The MP also said that the PACE Secretary General Wojciech Sawicki firstly behaved friendly and suggested to take back the draft resolution, thereafter he started pressures.
