“The European Court of Human Rights has initiated proceedings on Ukraine’s appeal against Russia and taken temporary measures against this country according to article 39 of its rules. According to these measures, Russia must refrain from any military activities and use of force against the citizens of Ukraine to avoid violation of the European Convention on Human Rights,” said Ukrainian Minister of Justice Pavel Petrenko, APA reports quoting censor.net.
The Minister said that it is Ukraine’s small victory in the international courts: “Now not only the world politics, but also international judicial institutions confirm that basic human rights are being violated in Ukraine by Russia. Such decisions are very important, because the leaders who ordered for military aggression against Ukraine will be dismissed sooner or later, but according to the international law, such decisions paves the way to be bring these people to justice without a time limit. ECtHR passed a decision in a maximum short term. We applied at dinner-time, the court announced the decision on its website in the evening. I want to express my gratitude to a team of lawyers and international legal experts who participated in the preparation of this request in a very short period of time.
