Parliament’s committee of human rights and committee of legal policy and statehood have yesterday held a joint meeting, APA reports. Draft law on amending the Constitutional law “On Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan” was discussed at the meeting. Chairman of the committee of legal policy and statehood Ali Huseynov gave information about the draft law.
He said the parliament had received an appeal signed by over 63 parliamentarians on making amendments to the law. Huseynov said amendments were proposed to Article 4.2 and 4.3 of the law. According to the amendment proposed to Article 4.2, human rights commissioner can not be elected more than twice, and according to the amendment proposed to Article 4.3, if the new human rights commissioner is not elected on the day, when the tenure of the human rights commissioner expires, the previous commissioner continues to hold the post.
MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev said this change should be applied on all elective bodies, restriction should be lifted. He underlined that the law on “Prosecutor’s office” should also be amended. Following the discussions, the draft law was recommended to the plenary meeting of the parliament.
