“What happens in Crimea reveals the importance of denouncing Kharkiv Pact,” leader of the Batkivshina (Fatherland) party Yulia Tymoshenko said in her interview with BBC Ukraine, APA reports.
She said that the Russian Black Sea fleet is the source of war and instability. On April 21, 2010 Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Russian President Dimitry Medvedev signed an agreement that prolonged Black Sea Fleet’s stay in Crimea for another 25 years.
Justifying the gas agreement signed with Russia in 2009, Former Prime Minister said that payment of real market prices for the Russian gas paves the way for Ukraine’s energy independence: “As long as we have an agreement on the political price with the Kremlin, Ukraine will never be independent. Therefore, we will fulfill the agreement signed earlier. This agreement was proper.”
Commenting on the Russian President’s statement that a newly established government in Ukraine is not legitimate, Tymoshenko said that the new government is fully legitimate and is recognized by the whole world: “This is his subjective opinion. I think that such statements are Putin’s desperate attempts to maintain influence in Ukraine. The Kremlin should stop perceiving Ukraine as a territory under its control. There are no more politicians in Ukraine whom Russia can use to implement their imperialistic strategies. Putin must accept this.”
