Current situation and prospects of bilateral relations were discussed at the meeting, press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA. It was emphasized that recent high-level visits strengthened partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan. Discussing the situation in the regions, the sides emphasized the importance of the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict for the peace in the region.
Mammadyarov said the settlement of the conflict was possible only within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and noted that the Armenian forces should withdraw from the occupied Azerbaijani lands and displaced persons should return to homeland.
Negroponte said his country supported the peace talks and urged for intensifying the negotiation process to accelerate solution. The guest also emphasized the importance of Azerbaijan as a producer of energy resources and transit country.
