Russia’s ambassador to Ukraine Viktor Chernomyrdin was summoned to the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, APA reports quoting UNIAN.

Foreign Minister Vladimir Ogryzko met with the ambassador and warned Viktor Chernomyrdin that he might be announced persona non grata. Vladimir Ogryzko protested against Chernomyrdin’s undiplomatic comments on the Ukrainian administration. The minister said such actions contradicted the Vienna Convention and violated diplomatic law and international norms. Viktor Chernomyrdin was told that such actions can make the Ukrainian administration apply Article 9 of the Vienna Convention signed in 1961. According to the article, a receiving State may “at any time and without explaining its decision” declare any member of a diplomatic staff persona non grata.

Viktor Chernomyrdin’s interview to the “Komsomolskaya Pravda na Ukraine” newspaper made the official Kiev angry. The interview published on February 11 says: “It is impossible to reach an agreement with the present Ukrainian administration. We will see when others come.”
