The Russian army on Thursday announced plans to hand over control of the central Georgian city of Gori to the Georgian police. Russian troops will stand away toward Tskhinvali, APA quotes Interfax agency. Georgia’s interior ministry will control the city, spokesman for Russian defense ministry General Viacheslav Borisov said. He denied reports about the Russian troops’ plunder in Gori.
Borisov said he visited the city on Wednesday together with the Georgian officials and foreign diplomats and was familiarized with the situation there. “All buildings in the city are in normal condition and water and energy supply of the city is continuing. Russian troops will stay in Gori for two days more to finish hand-over preparations. Our troops will withdraw from Gori after appropriate procedures are completed.
