Tayyip Erdogan was sworn in as Turkey’s 12th president at a ceremony in parliament and officially took office on August 10.
APA reports that the inauguration ceremony was held at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
A scandal occurred at the Assembly before the ceremony. CHP deputy Engin Altay asked Speaker Cemil Çiçek for the permission to speak. Çiçek said that it runs contrary to the inauguration ceremony and didn’t give permission. Engin Altay hurled a parliamentary rulings booklet at Speaker Çiçek, which hits the floor behind him. Then CHP deputies left the hall. MHP and BDP MPs stayed at the hall, along with their leaders Devlet Bahceli and Selahettin Demirtas.
Erdogan took the oath. Following it Turkey’s national anthem was played. Erdogan left the Assembly to visit the grave of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
Delegations led by heads of states and governments of many countries attended the inauguration ceremony. Azerbaijan was represented by the delegation led by Prime Minister Artur Rasizade.
