Publication of one of the official newspapers was suspended in Azerbaijan. The management of “Azerbaijan” publishing house refused to publish the “Respublika” newspaper three days ago, due to the absence of paper of the printing house, the editor-in-chief Teymur Ahmadov told Trend News on Oct. 9.

The “Respublika” newspaper was established in 1990 as a press organ of the Cabinet of Ministers. It is published six times per week. On October 9, 1995, Teymur Ahmadov was appointed editor-in-chief. Newspaper’s issues on October 8 and 9 were not published because of lack of paper. According to Ahmadov, this is connected with the financial problems faced by the newspaper.

“The newspaper has about seven thousand subscribers. But we cannot get subscription fees from distributor-companies completely. So we face with financial problems and cannot buy the paper,” said Ahmadov. According to him, is not yet known when the problem will be solved. “We hope for the help by the official structures. We are not able to solve this problem,” said Ahmadov.

More than 4,000 media outlets have been registered in Azerbaijan. Currently, only 600 of them are functioning. Nearly 400 newspapers and magazines are published and more than 20 television channels function. There are about 50 electronic media outlets, 20 news agencies, and the rest are the Internet resources in Azerbaijan.
