Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov was elected chairman of the Assembly of the International Anti-Corruption Academy member states for the next year at the third Assembly of the academy held in Baku today, APA reports.
Garalov, elected chairman of the Assembly of the International Anti-Corruption Academy member states as the term of office of Thailand’s representative ended, shared his views on the tasks lying ahead.
Prosecutor General noted the essential role of education in human life and formation of personalities, adding that as an educational institution, the academy should further develop its activities in organization of traditional summer courses and the content of “master courses on anti-corruption studies” covering integration of a large number of fields like economics, law, political science, psychology and all sectors of society should be renewed.
Garalov said increasing the number of member states of the Academy is one of the priorities, stressing the importance of geographical enlargement of the trainings on learning and sharing of the best practices through the organization of regional conferences on a variety of topics. In this respect, he proposed to hold a regional conference dedicated to the urgent issue in the fight against corruption in the Training Center of the Ministry of Taxes in Shamakhi region in the summer of 2015 under the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the International Anti-Corruption Academy and Azerbaijani Ministry of Taxes in 2012.
The prosecutor general said that the financial support to the Academy for increasing the donation and financial resources of the educational institution will be strengthened in order to the duties to be performed successfully under the Charter. Garalov stressed that preliminary investigation of crimes in corruption and development of recommendations for methodology of investigation by experienced prosecutors of the Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor-General of the Republic of Azerbaijan which is accepted by international organizations as an exemplary model will be a contribution for colleagues during the Azerbaijani side’s management of the academy.
