President Ilham Aliyev meets with Bulgarian President visiting Azerbaijan to participate in closing ceremony of European Games

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with the President of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev, who visited Azerbaijan to participate in the closing ceremony of the first European Games on June 28.

 

APA reports that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev greeted Rosen Plevneliev.

 

They underlined importance of the first European Games held in Baku. Rosen Plevneliev congratulated Azerbaijani President for successfully holding of the first European Games, which has taken place for the first time in the history. He conveyed Bulgarian People’s thank to the head of state for organizing the Games at high level. Plevneliev said Azerbaijan wrote a history on holding of the European Games, which remained as an idea for decades. According to him, Bulgarian sportsmen said they were astonished at the conditions created for them and they have never seen such condition. Head of Bulgarian state noted that the residential places of the sportsmen, sport infrastructure are at high level.

 

President Ilham Aliyev said that at one time the approach to the idea of the European Games was pessimist, there were persons thought that these Games, which have not standards, are unnecessary.

 

“We decided that standard of the Games to be high standard as possible. Now, everyone can see that these standards are Summer Olympic standards”, said the head of state. He added that the first European Games even is higher than Olympic Games for some parameters. President Aliyev noted that other delegation also said the European Games were organized at high level.

 

At the meeting, the sides signified satisfaction with high level of the relations between two countries and stressed that there are good opportunities for development of these relations in political, economic, health and other spheres.
