President Ilham Aliyev attended a ceremony to lay the foundation of Stadler Ganja Carriage Factory

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva have attended a ceremony to lay the foundation of Stadler Ganja Carriage Factory.

The head of state and his wife reviewed the general plan of the factory, and designs of carriages to be manufactured here.

Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov and Stadler Rail Group CEO Peter Spuhler informed President Ilham Aliyev about the project. It was said that the Stadler Rail Group and Azerbaijan`s Railway International Distribution company signed an agreement to jointly establish a carriage factory in Ganja. Under the agreement, the facility with an annual capacity of 60 carriages will be built in Gajka at the initial stage. The factory will be fitted with state-of-the-art Swiss made equipment.

The Stadler Rail Group focuses on regional and suburban traffic, light S-rail traffic, the tram and rack railway sectors. Founded in 1942, the company embarked on its path of development in 1989. It has factories in Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Austria, Italy, the USA and other countries. The company`s products are used in 13 countries.

The agreement between the Stadler Rail Group and Azerbaijan`s Railway International Distribution company is par of the government policy to ensure continuous development of the country`s transport infrastructure.

The head of state watched a promotional video on the activity of the Stadler Rail Group.

President Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation stone of the facility.

It was noted that the factory, to be located in Kapaz District, will be inaugurated in 2016. The construction work will involve state-of-the-art environmentally-friendly technology. The facility, which will cover an area of 20 hectares, will sell its products to Turkey, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran.

President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva reviewed the carriages manufactured at the Stadler Rail Group`s factory in Minsk. It was noted that the carriages meet highest standards.

The head of state gave his instructions and recommendations.
