Preliminary date of visit of European Commission’s president to Azerbaijan announced

The European Commission’s President Jose Manuel Barroso is expected to visit Azerbaijan next week, the press service of the European Commission told Trend.

The exact date and program of the visit hasn’t been announced yet.

Barroso is also expected to visit Georgia and Moldova.

During the visit to Baku, the European Commission’s president will meet with the Azerbaijani officials and discuss the current status of the bilateral relations, the prospects for cooperation and the developments in the region.

Note, Barroso’s previous visit to Azerbaijan took place on Jan.13, 2011.

Azerbaijan and the European Union cooperate in various spheres. The two sides signed a visa facilitation agreement on Nov.29, 2013 in Vilnius. Moreover, they signed a readmission agreement in Brussels in Feb.28, 2014.

Moreover, Azerbaijan and the EU also cooperate in the energy sphere. Currently, they cooperate on the Southern Gas Corridor project.
