Mrs Anna Brasseur, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), has today held a press conference as part of the assembly’s autumn session. During the conference, the PACE President touched upon a variety of issues as well as the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, PACE’s Europe bureau reports.
Answering an Armenian journalist’s question concerning the probability of the participation of Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) in the negotiations as a separate side, Anna Brasseur said.
“I was in Azerbaijan last week. Seizing the opportunity, I re-emphasized the necessity of the establishment of contact between the delegations of both countries at the level of parliaments. This has now turned out to be something very complicated or almost impossible. But it’s very important to be able to bring both delegations together. The previous PACE president had managed to hold a meeting between the delegations. I had also managed to hold several consecutive meetings. But afterwards, the sides renounced it. We can forward the issue at the level of parliaments, and what I’m seeking is to make both delegations be able to negotiate with each other. To be honest, this situation over this issue is very critical or I would even say it’s impossible. For us to continue our work, both sides have to negotiate with each other”.
