Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Bureau will hold its meeting on November 27 in Madrid and meetings of the Permanent Committee will follow the meeting on next day. Head of Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov will attend both meetings. Seyidov told
My WebpageAPA the meetings would take place in Madrid because Spain would take over the presidency of the Council of Europe’s Ministerial Committee from Sweden. He said the Bureau would approve the agenda of PACE January session. The parliamentarian said the session would focus on the Russian-Georgian relations, world financial crisis, presidential elections in Azerbaijan and other issues. Seyidov said PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel would make report on presidential elections in Azerbaijan and the preliminary version of the report was already spread among the parliamentarians. “The report will be discussed at the January session after its preliminary official discussion”.
Speaking about the Herkel’s announcement about dealing with the foreign radio broadcasting in Azerbaijan in his report, Seyidov said there was no such decision. “Azerbaijan has reasonable position on all issues which was delivered to the appropriate institution and international organizations and Azerbaijan has concrete position on this issue too. No one thinks about closing, banning or taking some sharp measures. We only intend to improve our legislation. Our American colleagues and friends also stated that Azerbaijan’s laws should be respected. Azerbaijan said that it didn’t need in hastiness in this issue. May be some forces are interested to cause agiotage and to introduce it as a special case, but they can not achieve their goal”.
