MP: Islamophobia and threats to Azerbaijan clearly visible in Freedom House report

Each year, Freedom House openly demonstrates bias against Azerbaijan in its report. This bias is evident during a careful analysis of the Freedom House’s annual report ‘Freedom in the World’, Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Mubariz Gurbanli told Trend on Thursday.

“In its report, Freedom House listed the separatist Nagorno-Karabakh regime established by Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan as “partially free”. This is a great mistake and is contrary to international legal regulations. By these means, Freedom House wants to present a separatist, occupying regime under the direct control of the Armenian armed forces regime as a partially free territory. This is ridiculous and over the top”, he added.

He said that in fact, a criminal regime exists in the Nagorno-Karabakh occupied territories.

“This regime is also a threat to the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, it is impossible to speak of the existence of human rights and freedoms there. This area is actually home to an occupying Armenian regime and the circles that patronize it. This territory has been criminalized and produces drugs and is involved in gang violence. Its military forces are directly subordinate to Yerevan. It could be said that all those who are behind this puppet regime are war criminals who participated in crimes against Azerbaijanis”, Gurbanli said.

He went on to say that if a freedom index is introduced in respect to organizations, Freedom House would be among the outsiders in this ranking.

“This organization never presents objective reports. It presents a pro-Armenian position that listed the Armenian puppet amongst partially free territories. Everyone is aware of Armenia’s current state. Therefore, all Azerbaijanis must demonstrate their position in relation to such organizations as Freedom House, and expose its bias. The organization has to be exposed in the foreign media”, he said.

He added that placing Azerbaijan below Armenia in the list is completely absurd. It would be foolish to believe in the presence of a state in Armenia, as the regime is completely criminalized, and the population is escaping from the country.

“Islamophobia and Christian solidarity, pressure and threats against Azerbaijan and developing Islamic countries are clearly visible in this report. Therefore, we do not consider such organizations as Freedom House to be free. We strongly condemn this information and consider it an integral part of the black PR campaign against Azerbaijan”, Gurbanli said.
