Mexican Congress calls for expansion of cooperation with Azerbaijan

The Mexican Congress urged the government to take measures to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan.

 

The corresponding resolution was adopted by the second committee on foreign relations, defense and public education of the permanent commission of the Mexican Congress, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry said August 27.

 

The resolution was introduced by Gabriela Cuevas Barron, the chairperson of the foreign affairs committee of the parliament, Senators Pilar Ortega Martinez and Juan Carlos Romero.

 

The resolution informs about Azerbaijan. In particular, it was stressed that diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

 

Moreover, the document states that Mexico plays the role of a bridge between Azerbaijan and Latin America.

 

After gaining independence, Azerbaijan has achieved development of the economy. This developed communications, science, technologies, the growth of social welfare, and modernization, the resolution says.

 

The document also highlights the role of Azerbaijan in energy security of Europe. It stressed that the country is one of the most strategically important ones in the Caucasus.

 

The resolution said that Azerbaijan has more than 150 years’ experience in the fields of production, exploitation and processing of oil, and Mexico can benefit from this experience.

 

The document also provides information on the achievements of Azerbaijan in the spheres of tourism, poverty reduction, and development of its non-oil sector.

 

The resolution notes that the country invests in energy, tourism, mining, telecommunications, science, technology and other industries.

 

The two countries have a rich cultural heritage, according to the document.

 

The document stresses the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the spheres of economy, energy, research, agriculture, and technological development.

 

Furthermore, the authors of the resolution emphasize the attention of the Federal Government of Mexico on the need to strengthen relations with Azerbaijan.
