A meeting of the General Committee on Political Affairs and Security is under way in Baku as part of the 23rd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly entitled “Helsinki +40: Towards Human Security for All”.
Deputy Chairman of the Committee, member of the Azerbaijani Parliament Azay Guliyev made an opening speech at the event and gave an insight into the agenda.
Parliamentarians from different countries made speeches and proposed amendments to a draft resolution prepared by Finnish member of the Parliament Pia Kauma.
Swedidh MP Asa Lindestam noted the importance of using the word “crisis” in the resolution.
Canadian parliamentarian Ghislain Maltais emphasized the importance looking for ways of settling conflicts by peaceful means, ensuring respect to fundamental rights and freedoms.
Representative of Kyrgyzstan Chunubay Tursunbekov said the OSCE was an important arena for solution of disputes, and underlined the importance of continuing talks in bilateral and multilateral formats.
