The State Commission on Hostages, POWs and Missing People confirmed the reports about the soldiers of Azerbaijani army taken hostages by the Armenian army. The Commission’s secretary, Shahin Sailov told Trend News that the Commission will take necessary measures to return Anar Hajiyev who was taken hostage by the Armenian army.
Sergeant of Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Anar Hajiyev was taken hostage in Fuzuli contact line of troops on May 10. Hajiyev, who was called up for military service from Goranboy, was taken hostage in uncertain circumstances.
Hostage’s mother, Naila Hajiyeva said to Trend News that her son had not complained of any problems in the military unit he served. “Anar was going to complete his military service in six months. A week ago he said in a telephone talk that he will come for a holiday in 10 days,” she said.
Hajiyeva said she had last met her son prior to the Novruz holiday. She said Anar lived in Russia for the last three years. “He voluntarily joined the Azerbaijani army when he was 18 last birthday.”
One Azerbaijani soldier is in Armenian captivity at present. 20-year-old soldier, Rafig Hasanov Rahman oglu was taken hostage by Armenian soldiers on Oct. 8, 2008.
