Length of commissioned roads in Azerbaijan increased

The total length of commissioned roads in Azerbaijan reached 19,000 kilometres in 2013 compared to 18,750, in 2003, head of Azeryolservis JSC (construction and reconstruction of roads) of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry, Javid Gurbanov told Trend on Feb. 22.

Some 17,529 kilometres out of the total commissioned roads are on the balance sheet of Azeryolservis JSC.

The length of constructed, reconstructed and repaired roads in Azerbaijan amounted to 8332 kilometres over the past 10 years. Some 222 new bridges and overpasses have been constructed and commissioned on the roads during this period.

Some 3014 units of mixed type vehicles, machinery and equipment were purchased for the construction and overhaul of roads during the reported period. Some 33 asphalt plants were commissioned with an average daily capacity of 2240 tons.

A large amount of work has been done on the restoration and reconstruction of the main highways to the north, south and westerly directions and the work is ongoing.

More than 60 viaducts and tunnels were constructed and commissioned in the capital over the last period which in turn was positively reflected in the opening of capital roads.

Furthermore, during the reporting period, 60 over and underground pedestrian passages were constructed and 10 were overhauled.

At present, the length of roads, avenues and streets in Baku on the balance sheet of Azeryolservis JSC makes up 1525 kilometres. The length of constructed, reconstructed and repaired roads in the capital was 703.3 kilometres in 2008-2013.
