Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order on the application of the law dated 30 Sept. 2015 on making amendments to the law on diplomatic service.

The latest amendments expand the scope of penalties for flaws in diplomatic service in order for Azerbaijani diplomats to grow in responsibility.

According to the proposal, diplomats may be reduced in rank or striped of their ranks for a serious flaw in service duties or any action incompatible with diplomatic service.

Note that, the current version of the article is as follows: “They may be reduced in rank or stripped of their ranks when charged with having committed an action illegal according to the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan or the country they are in”.

With the amendment, Article 11.2 reads as follows: “They may be reduced in rank or stripped of their ranks for a serious flaw in service duties or any action incompatible with diplomatic service or when charged with having committed an action illegal according to the law of Azerbaijan or the country they are in”.
