“I am aware of all the problems of Kvemo Kartli region. I ran in the parliamentary elections two years ago, studied all problems of the people living in Kvemo Kartli, including Yirghanchay village settled by the Azerbaijanis and I learned what they want. At that time I didn’t have a chance to solve their problems, but now I have a chance,” Paata Khizanishvili, newly appointed governor of Kvemo Kartli region, densely populated by Azerbaijanis said in his exclusive interview with APA’s Georgia bureau.
He said he would work every day, every hour for the development of the region and try to solve all the problems.
“Azerbaijanis living in the region are full-fledged citizens of Georgia, this country is their hometown as well. We’ll move toward the unification of Georgians and Azerbaijanis. We will carry out long-term projects and develop a plan of action. A year later I will invite you to interview me again and you will see our achievements with your own eyes,” he noted.
P. Khizanishvili said that he can speak and express himself in Azerbaijani. “We will implement a number of projects regarding translation of Georgian and Azerbaijani literature. My friends from Baku will advise me what talented Azerbaijani writers and poets’ works should be translated. We will also translate Georgian writers’ works into the Azerbaijani language and upon publication of the books we will distribute them among Azerbaijani and Georgian people who can’t afford to buy a book. We plan to arrange joint trainings on culture, sports and other fields”, he said.
The newly-appointed governor stressed that the land issue has remained the very painful problem of the Azerbaijani people for the last few years.
“I am familiar with all the problems of Azerbaijanis. I have friends working in the ministries of economy and justice. These people have been working for two years on creating a legal framework for land issues. This issue is really painful and I know it well. There have been conflicts and problems regarding the land issue many times. This issue should be considered within the law, so that people could familiarize themselves with the existing situation. Though I am from Gomareti village of Dmanisi district, I don’t have even an inch of land. The land should belong to those who work in these lands. Three days later, the Ministry of Justice will hold a meeting on the creation of a legal framework in this regard and we will clarify many important issues”, he added.
