June 1st-International Child Protection Day

On July 1st, International Child Protection Day staff of “Human Rights in the XXI Century-Azerbaijan” Foundation met with children in boarding-school ¹2, in Merdekan settlement for orphans and children been deprived of parent patronage. During the meeting collected books and holiday presents were given to children, and their problems were discussed. The piano given to children as a present was settled at the school conference hall. We should say that the children were interested and happy with the piano.

In the joint program of our Foundation with “Khazar TV” on the topic of “The future of orphans” Satiba Farhadli, psychologist of Towards the Unity Care for Disabled and Orphans Social Union, and the lawyer of “Human Rights in the XXI Century-Azerbaijan” Foundation Rovshana Rahimova were the participants. In the program topics such as the problems of orphans, level of protection of their rights, their present situation and social adaptation to the society in the future were discussed. The orphans participated in the program talked about life style, problems they face, and their thoughts about the future. One of the spectators called the studio and informed us about his intention about helping orphans to find job.

NOTE: during the discussions in the program it was mentioned that according to the statistical information of 2005, there were 618 criminal acts committed by the children under the mature age during a year in the Republic. This only forms 3 percent of all crimes committed in the Country. In fact, this case is the most satisfactory in CIS area.
