A briefing on the Southern Gas Corridor energy project was held in the U.S. Senate on March 5 at the initiative of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States and with participation of an expert from the Jamestown Foundation, Vladimir Socor.
The briefing was attended by senators’ assistants representing the Energy and External Relations Committee, the Azerbaijani Embassy in the U.S. told Trend on Wednesday.
At the briefing, Socor spoke in detail about the importance of the Southern Gas Corridor in terms of Europe’s energy security and Azerbaijan’s leading role in this project.
Socor stressed the importance of the entry of Azerbaijani gas to the European market which will help reduce Europe’s current energy dependency.
Noting the effectiveness of this project in terms of the economy, Socor stressed the positive impact of the project on energy security in the region.
Socor also said that the Southern Gas Corridor project meets the interest of the United States and stressed the importance of Washington’s support for this project.
