EU does not show adequate attitude towards Armenia, which ignores UNSC resolutions

A delegation led by Azay Guliyev, the Chairman of the Council of State Support to NGOs (CSSN) under the President of Azerbaijan, met with the Belgian Senate Speaker Sabine de Bethune, the CSSN press service told Trend Sept. 10.

 

The meeting was attended by the Chairwoman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Hijran Huseynova, MP Malahat Ibrahimgizi, CSSN Member Rena Mirzazade, and a representative of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium.

 

During the meeting, Sabine de Bethune spoke about the Belgian Senate’s activities.

 

She said Belgium attaches great importance to cooperation with the countries of the Eastern Partnership, including Azerbaijan.

 

Guliyev, for his part speaking about the financial support of foreign NGOs, said the main goal is to build long-term cooperation between the European and the U.S.-based civil society institutions and the CSSN.

 

He went on to add that the CSSN is cooperating with 30 foreign organizations, four of them being from Belgium.

 

Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Guliyev expressed regret at the observant stance and the double standards of the EU.

 

He pointed out the wrongfulness of the fact that the EU does not show an adequate attitude towards Armenia, which ignores the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

 

He said the impunity of the occupier Armenia is the reason behind the growth of tensions.

 

The CSSN Chairman Azay Guliyev stressed that the measures taken to protect Ukraine’s territorial integrity, need also to be taken with regard to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

 

He also called on Belgium to contribute to a just solution of this conflict.

 

Guliyev also asked Sabine de Bethune’s help in holding a meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Nagorno-Karabakh in Brussels to discuss the possibilities for these two communities to co-exist together.

 

The information on Azerbaijan’s experience in protection of women’s rights, boosting employment and other topics was also presented at the meeting.
