Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has today received a Polish delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Tomasz Orlowski, being on a visit to Azerbaijan.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the level of development of the relations between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA.
Orlowski said that Poland welcomes Azerbaijan’s role in ensuring stability and security in the South Caucasus region. He expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its contributions to NATO-led operations in maintenance of international peace and security.
Mammadyarov said the 20th anniversary of the Contract of the Century, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Trans-Anatolia Project will be held on September 20 in Baku, noting Azerbaijan is contributing to stability in the region and beyond through energy and infrastructure projects and a network of mutually beneficial cooperation.
As stated by the OSCE Minsk Group’s co-chair countries at various levels, Elmar Mammadyarov also emphasized the unacceptability of the current status quo, regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan as the major threat to the region. For the resolution of the conflict, first the Armenian Armed Forces should be withdrawn from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories, the minister stressed.
During the discussion of relations with the European Union, the sides emphasized the importance of developing cooperation within the Eastern Partnership program considering the capabilities and different interests of states.
Emphasizing the existing Azerbaijan-EU relations in strategic partnership, Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan is aiming to establish strategic partnership with the EU in other spheres as well.
