“Russia will not change its decision on recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia,” said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, APA reports. He said that there was no ground to reverse the decision.
“From the juridical point of view, new states have emerged. The process of their recognition may take a rather long time, but our position will not change. We have made our decision once and for all,” he said.
Dmitry Medvedev named five principles of the Russian foreign policy.
“First of all, Russia recognizes the supremacy of fundamental principles of international law. Secondly, the world must be multipolar. Unipolarity is unacceptable. Thirdly, Russia does not want confrontation with any country. Russia does not intend to isolate itself. We will develop friendly relations with Europe and the United States. The protection of life and dignity of Russian citizens “no matter where they live” is an absolute priority. We will also protect the interests of our entrepreneurs abroad. Everyone must know that an aggression will be deterred,” he said.
Medvedev called Russia’s interests in friendly regions the fifth principle.
“There are regions in the world where Russia has privileged interests. These are regions where countries with which we have friendly relations are located. Russia will establish relations with these countries very carefully. The question is not only the countries on which it borders,” he said.
