Discussions on the theme “Enhancing the independence of women in multicultural and modern societies” have been held in the plenary sitting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe yesterday. APA’s Europe bureau reports that British parliamentarian Humfrey Malins said that Azerbaijan played an important role in the cross-cultural and cross-civilizational dialogue. He mentioned the International Forum “Expanding the Role of Women in Cross-Cultural Dialogue” organized by Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Baku.
The document prepared by the member of Azerbaijani delegation Ganira Pashayeva on this theme was published and distributed as the declaration of PACE. The declaration was undersigned by about 30 PACE members. The undersigned, taking into consideration an active role of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and especially its president Mrs.
Mehriban Aliyeva to initiate and strengthen the women’s dialogue for promoting intercultural understanding, welcoming the International Forum “Expanding the Role of Women in Cross Cultural Dialogue”, organized by Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Baku, which brought together hundreds of prominent women, officials and experts from up to 60 countries and international organizati-ons, who called on the states and civil society actors to spare no efforts in promoting gender equality, sustainable dialogue, tolerance and justice, call on the Council of Europe and its member states to expand its agenda on women’s empowerment, support and contribute, where applicable, to such activities as are carried out by Heydar Aliyev Foundation and its president Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva to this end.
