US Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor David Kramer, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, met with Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov on Friday. APA reports, Kramer told journalists after the meeting that he had held very constructive and open dialogues in Azerbaijan. He said these dialogues were very important for both sides and noted that he had discussed upcoming presidential elections and situation of media in Azerbaijan.
“This election is a big opportunity for Azerbaijan. If the elections meet the international standards it will open big opportunities for Azerbaijan”. Kramer said his country was interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan and reminded that the relations were particularly developing in the energy and security fields. ‘However democracy and freedom of media are very important for us. The most important and significant partner for the US is democratically developing country. The election is not just the process of voting and accounting of votes. The election campaign is important too. Enough international observers will watch the elections”.
