Criminal case may be initiated over beatings of Azerbaijanis in Paris

A criminal case may be initiated over the beatings of two Azerbaijanis in France’s National Assembly in Paris.
Today at 10:00 Paris time, victims Mirvari Fataliyeva and Vusal Huseynov will give evidence in connection with the incident, Azerbaijan’s Embassy in France told Trend on Thursday.
This issue will be examined by the gendarmerie which is responsible for the security of the country’s state structures. After the victims give testimony their claim will be considered by the Prosecutor’s Office which will decide the merits of a criminal case, the embassy said.
The two Azerbaijanis – Head of the House of Azerbaijan Mirvari Fataliyeva and Vusal Huseynov were beaten by representatives of the Armenian community at the French National Assembly during an event titled ’25 years after Sumgait: the present situation and future prospects for the people of Nagorno-Karabakh’, organised by the Armenian community in France.
The Azerbaijani Embassy sent a note of protest to the French Foreign Ministry and a letter to the president of the country’s National Assembly in connection with the incident.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has recently issued a statement condemning the violence against Azerbaijani citizens in France and expressing the hope that relevant authorities will take action on this issue and that the country’s law enforcement agencies will promptly investigate the crime and bring culprits to justice.
The parliamentary group of friendship of the National Assembly of France with Azerbaijan condemned the incident involving the beating of two Azerbaijanis in Paris.
‘We believe that yesterday’s unprecedented incident at France’s National Assembly cannot remain without effect and the culprits should be punished’, the group’s statement said.
The statement was signed by the chairman of the group Thierry Mariani and 10 members of the National Assembly.
