Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO) Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade has received a delegation led by Herbert Salber, the EU representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.

The delegation includes Head of the EU delegation in Azerbaijan Ms. Malena Mard and political advisors of the EU special representative Atanas Baltov and Tom Trier, the CMO told APA.

Allahshukur Pashazade spoke to the guests about state-religion relations and existing religious tolerance dominating in Azerbaijan, noting that devotees of various religious confessions and communities have been living peacefully in the country for centuries.

Allahshukur Pashazade expressed his deep concern over the current situation in the South Caucasus, mentioning Armenian’s recent commemoration of the 100th centenary of the so-called Armenian genocide and adding that the aggressor is Armenia itself for invading seven districts of Azerbaijan and carrying out a massacre in Khojaly. “There can’t be any peace in the South Caucasus unless the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is settled,” he stressed.

H. Salber asked about the kind of role clerics are playing in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and what actions are needed to enhance their role in future.
