Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev will pay a visit to Azerbaijan to participate in the celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the Contract of the Century, diplomatic sources told Trend Sept.2.
During the visit, he is expected to discuss the energy cooperation issues with Azerbaijan.
Plevneliev earlier told Turkey’s Anadolu agency that his country intends to purchase Azerbaijani gas.
He emphasized the significance of the Trans-Anatolian (TANAP) and Trans-Adriatic (TAP) gas pipeline projects for Bulgaria and added that these projects are strategically important for all European countries.
Note, gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field will be delivered to Europe though the abovementioned pipelines.
Plevneliev went on to add that Baku will host a meeting of presidents of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Greece and other countries on Sept. 23-24.
The meeting participants will have discussions on the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Southern Europe, including Bulgaria.
