On the initiative of Belarus, Minsk will host the high-level UNICEF conference for the countries of Central, Eastern Europe and the CIS on strengthening national mechanisms for protection of children from neglect, violence, abuse, and exploitation on November 12-13, spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing.
“Belarus will host such a high-level conference on child protection for the first time,” Dmitry Mironchik noted. He said that the participants of the conference will exchange views and share experience in the creation of effective child protection systems. The conference is also designed to strengthen the inter-agency cooperation in this field, bolster the activities of the national child protection agencies, and discuss the issues of child protection topical for the countries of the region.
Belarus Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Commission for Children’s Rights Anatoly Tozik and Belarus Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei will open the conference. The forum will also be attended by UNICEF Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe and the CIS Marie-Pierre Poirier.
Partaking in the conference will be delegations from Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Moldova, Macedonia, Serbia, and Russia.
