Bayil remand prison prisoners move to new jail: The head of Penal Service

Prisoners are moving from Bayil remand prison to a new jail in Baku starting from early this week, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Justice and Penal Service Head Nazim Alakbarov said. Close public scrutiny was held last week in the new jail located in the capital of Azerbaijan.

According to the information of Trend News, Ministry of Justice official, Malik Alakbarov said that new jail covers an area of 20 hectares and will hold 2,500 prisoners. The jail composes 9 buildings. Three of them have been put into operation. There are 576 cells and 38 penal cells, he said. At present, there are 1,200 prisoners in the isolator number 1 and 1,150 prisoners in the isolator.

Malik Alakbarov said the jail for keeping 350 female prisoners, and reformatory for 150 people, hospitals and a new building of the Severe Crimes Court are expected to be built near new jail.

Nazim Alakbarov said about 1,200 prisoners will move to the jail at an early stage. The process will be completed next week. All prisoners from Bayil and Shuvalan Jail 3 will move to a new jail. He said construction of a new prison in Shaki will be completed by end of the year. Jail in Umbaki settlement will be put into operation in 2010.
