The decision on holding the next Intercultural Dialogue Forum in Baku was adopted during the 8th plenary session of the Steering Committee for Culture of the Council of Europe held on 14 – 15 May, this year. Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister, Sevda Mammadaliyeva and head of the sector for co-operation with international organizations and programs, Vasif Eyvazov also took part at the session.
The session focused on the European countries which are expected to be invited to the conference of the culture ministers of Islamic countries to be held in Baku on October 13 – 15, this year. Addressing the session, the deputy culture minister, Ms. Mammadaliyeva spoke about the initiatives put forward by the Azerbaijani government to promote a dialogue between civilizations and the activities on culture.
She informed the session participants that Azerbaijan was planning to hold a meeting of the national co-coordinators of Europe and neighboring countries on intercultural dialogue in 2010, the Intercultural Dialogue Forum in 2011, the East-West Cinema Festival within the framework of Artists for Dialogue Project to be organized jointly by the Council of Europe and Azerbaijan this year, as well as Eat-West Dance Festival in 2010 and International Jazz Festival the same year. The proposals submitted by the Azerbaijani delegation were included in the document known as the “Baku Process”.
