An international conference titled “Traditions of religious tolerance in the Caucasus and Azerbaijan’s model of multiculturalism” kicked off in Baku Dec. 1.
The conference, chaired by Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, brings together members of the Supreme Religious Council of the Caucasus Peoples, state and religious figures, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Georgian Orthodox Church, and ambassadors of several countries.
The message by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the participants of the conference was read out at the opening of the event.
Later, a video dedicated to multiculturalism in Azerbaijan was displayed.
Speaking at the conference, Allahshukur Pashazade said that the conference will serve peace and its preservation in the Caucasus against the backdrop of the racial, national, ethnic and other conflicts taking place across the world. He noted that Azerbaijan demonstrates a model of tolerance in this sence.
