Azerbaijan’s first lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva has been nominated for the Peace Prize of the Swedish Peace Agency.
Mehriban Aliyeva is one of the two nominees for the Peace Prize, and the other nominee is American writer and activist Alice Walker, the agency told APA.
Mehriban Aliyeva’s broad socio-political activity, her indispensable role in shaping a positive image of Azerbaijani women around the world, her attention to the issue of women’s rights in the Islamic world, Middle East and the Caucasus, as well as her extensive activity for the progress of women’s welfare as a leader of Azerbaijan women’s movement played a major role in her nomination for the Peace Prize, said the agency.
The Swedish Peace Agency supported and highly appreciated the first lady’s activity and elected her as one of the two nominees for its Peace Prize.
The Peace Prize will be awarded at a ceremony which is due to take place in late November in Stockholm.
