About 10 Russian and Azerbaijani ships will for the first time take part in a joint naval exercise in the Caspian Sea, Russia’s Southern Military District said in a statement Friday, RIA Novosti reported.
“The two countries’ military officials reached a decision during consultations to hold a joint exercise on the defense of maritime economic infrastructure on September 2015,” said the statement.
According to the statement, Russia’s Caspian Flotilla and ships of Azerbaijan’s Naval Forces will check the provision of the protection of international maritime security in the Caspian Sea, joint artillery strikes at maritime and air targets, provision of assistance to a wrecked ship, etc.
