Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov has met Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland.
Mr. Asadov noted Azerbaijan joined the Council of Europe in 2001, saying the country had successfully fulfilled its obligations to the organization.
The Speaker touched upon Azerbaijan`s assuming the chairmanship of the CoE Committee of Ministers, saying this would contribute to expanding bilateral relations between the country and the organization.
Mr. Asadov expressed confidence that Azerbaijan`s chairmanship would be a success, pointing to the country`s chairmanship of the UN Security Council during its membership of the organization.
He noted Azerbaijan would try its best to organize its chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers in an excellent manner.
Mr. Jagland hailed development in Azerbaijan.
He especially praised the activities of the “ASAN Xidmet” service, particularly its application of the latest technologies.
Mr. Jagland said the “ASAN Xidmet” was a rare experience, hailing it as a good example to Europe.
Noting that he visited the regions of Azerbaijan, Mr. Jagland praised tolerance in the country. He said representatives of various nations and religions were coexisting in peace, friendship and harmony in the country.
