“Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament didn’t say that Azerbaijan will support Russia’s position on the Ukrainian issue at the OSCE PA Session to be held in Baku”

Azerbaijani Parliament has issued a statement on the report of ITAR-TASS that Azerbaijan will support Russia’s position on the issue of Ukraine at the session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to be held in Baku, Azerbaijani Parliament told APA. The statement says that the report of ITAR-TASS regarding the meeting of parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov with State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin during the official visit to Moscow that took place on June 4-5 at the invitation of the Russian State Duma does not reflect reality:

“The Azerbaijan side will supposedly defend Russia’s position regarding the issue of Ukraine in the June session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to be held in Baku. We state that future development prospects of the inter-parliamentary relations, further enhancement of the bilateral cooperation and regional issues were discussed at the meeting, but the Parliament Speaker didn’t announce such an idea. The Azerbaijani side clearly expresses its support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and all countries at different levels, as well as in influential international organizations, but opposes sanctions against Russia in this matter. Our country supports settlement of such problems in the context of international law and through negotiations. We declare once again that the parliamentary diplomacy of independent Azerbaijan is based on national interests, international legal norms and principles”, the statement said.

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Ukraine also refutes the report of ITAR-TASS.
