Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova, chair of the parliament`s Social Policy Committee Hadi Rajabli, and chair of the Committee on Human Rights Rabiyyat Aslanova have today met UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons Chaloka Beyani.

They discussed the state of over one million Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs whose human rights were violated as a result of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the role of the international organizations in solving the dispute.

The Deputy Speaker said Azerbaijan attached great importance to cooperation with the United Nations, saying the country respected decisions and resolutions of the organization.

Muradova recalled four resolutions of the UN Security Council, noting that Armenia had disregarded these documents for more than 20 years.

She said: “I am also one of the over one million Azerbaijanis whose rights were violated because my home also was destroyed in the occupied lands. Now, I am representing these persons at the Azerbaijani Parliament. For many years, we have been making a number of efforts to ensure restoration of our rights. Unfortunately, our activities have not produced any expected results.”

“We would like the UN Security Council to show resoluteness in ensuring the fulfillment of its resolutions on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”

Mr. Beyani highlighted the United Nations` efforts to ensure resolution of conflicts through peaceful means and solve problems of IDPs and refugees.

He stressed the role of parliaments in conflict resolution.

The Azerbaijani MPs criticized the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group that has been mediating the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for more than 20 years.
