Azerbaijan`s Minister of Justice, chairman of Judicial-Legal Council Fikrat Mammadov has met President of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) John Stacey on the sidelines of the plenary session of the CEPEJ.
The meeting was also attended by chairman of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan Ramiz Rzayev, head of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Philippe Boillat.
The Minister stressed Azerbaijan`s close cooperation with the Council of Europe, including CEPEJ, and spoke of the country`s rapid development, development of judicial and legal system, modernization of the infrastructure, election of judges and fight against corruption. Mammadov noted the importance of events held under Azerbaijan Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, and stressed the existing opportunities for the expansion of the mutual activity.
President of the CEPEJ John Stacey hailed Azerbaijan`s rapid development, and noted the progressive character of reforms, as well as division of court buildings into administrative and social zones increase citizen`s trust in courts.
Vice-president of the CEPEJ George Stava praised judicial reforms in Azerbaijan, adding the country can share its experience with other countries.
Philippe Boillat noted Azerbaijan has strong political will to fight against corruption and to improve independence of court, and hailed “ASAN service”.
